The Skoll Foundation announced Dr. Madhav Chavan and Pratham as a 2011 recipient of the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship. In conjunction with this award, Pratham received a three-year $1,235,000 grant from the Skoll Foundation to create an institution dedicated to identification, training, and nurturing of leaders, managers, and entrepreneurs who will not only continue to run Pratham programs around the country, but who will also independently build new ideas and strengthen efforts in the area of education in the country.
“Madhav Chavan is transforming India’s approach to children’s literacy and education,” said Sally Osberg, President and CEO of the Skoll Foundation. “Chavan’s unwavering insistence on universal education, and his work to engage community volunteers in the quest for literacy, has already reached more than 34 million children, offering a proven model for the entire world.”
Founded by Jeff Skoll in 1999 to pursue his vision of a sustainable world of peace and prosperity, the Skoll Foundation is a platform for accelerating entrepreneurial approaches and innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing social issues.

Ms. Farida Lambay, Pratham co-Founder, was awarded the HTForMumbai ‘Changemaker’ title under the ‘Education’ category by the jury and the ‘Popular’ category in January 2016.
Pratham received international recognition in 2014 through its work towards providing quality education to millions of disadvantaged children in India by coordinating voluntary and government efforts and evaluating the results.
Pratham USA was awarded the Times of India (TOI) Social Impact Award in the category International Contribution to India. President, Pratham USA, Dr. Atul Varadhachary received the award. The President of India attended the ceremony amongst other prominent leaders.
Dr. Madhav Chavan was awarded the annual WISE Prize for Education- the first major global prize of its kind. It recognizes an individual or a team for an outstanding, world-class contribution to the field of education. The Laureate receives an award of USD $500,000 and a gold medal.

Claremont McKenna College chose Pratham as the recipient of the fifth annual Henry R. Kravis Prize in Leadership. The $250,000 award recognizes extraordinary leadership in the non-profit sector.
