Acclaimed journalist and TV presenter Sangita Myska records BBC Radio 4 Appeal for Pratham UK

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that celebrated TV presenter and journalist, Sangita Myska recently recorded a BBC Radio 4 Appeal on behalf of Pratham UK at the BBC’s Broadcasting House in London.

Sangita is well known for her work with the BBC in front of the camera as well as behind the scenes in various roles such as reporter, producer and presenter over the last 25 years. She now hosts her own weekend phone-in show for LBC Radio.

Less well known however is her work with children in India. A decade ago, Sangita took a sabbatical to work in schools teaching children, living in poverty. She saw first-hand how poorly resourced many Indian state school are with teachers working in hugely challenging circumstances, meaning children often don’t get the basic education they deserve. Which is why she was delighted when approached by Pratham UK to present our BBC Radio 4 Appeal.

During the appeal Sangita will tell the story of nine-year-old Rupali who is one of seven sisters living in a rural fishing village in Odisha. After struggling to keep up in school she became scared of studying. Losing her motivation to learn, Rupali began staying at home with her mother and was in danger of dropping out of school altogether until Pratham stepped in to help.

You will be able to listen to the full story of how we helped Rupali regain her confidence and continue her education through our school holiday catch-up camps on Sunday 26th November at 7.54am and 9.25pm and again on Thursday 30th November at 3.27pm.

We will be sharing more about our BBC Radio 4 Appeal across social media in the run up to its broadcast, but we’d love it if our Pratham UK family could also, please share our posts with your friends, family and networks.

We want to reach as many listeners as possible so that we can give even more children like Rupali the chance to address learning gaps that are preventing them from continuing their education and reaching their full potential.

If you would like more information about the BBC Radio 4 Appeal or have any questions, please get in touch with Pratham UK’s Digital Marketing Manager, Melissa Jones: melissa@pratham.org.uk.

We hope you tune in!
