Pratham UK nominated for ‘Social Impact Project of the Year’ at the UK-India Awards

Pratham UK are delighted to be nominated for the prestigious ‘Social Impact Project of the Year’ at the UK-India Awards 2023.

The awards, organised by the India Global Forum celebrate the outstanding contributions of those who drive the UK-India partnership, including leaders in business, professional services, government, culture and social impact.

Pratham UK are proud to be recognised for our pioneering work which has delivered significant social impact, offering ‘Teaching at the Right Level’ (TaRL) in over 10,000 communities across India and reaching even more children through partnerships with state governments.

During Covid, we rapidly pivoted to provide learning materials to over 500,000 households each day through WhatsApp and SMS, enabling children to keep learning. Then offered TaRL-based activities, delivered by community volunteers whilst schools remained closed.

Our Biannual ASER survey, which estimates learning levels in every rural district in India, has helped move the educational conversation from what the government provides, in terms of school buildings and salaries to what is actually learned.

In addition to this, Pratham UK have been fundraising for children’s learning programmes in India for the last decade, even tripling pre-pandemic levels post-Covid. We are now building a fundraising team to engage the Indian diaspora in the UK and institutional and corporate donors across Europe to continue to expand our fundraising mission.

We look forward to joining our fellow nominees on Thursday 29th June for a Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony hosted by Rory Bremner, Britain’s celebrated comedian and impressionist, at the iconic Fairmont Windsor Park, who also hosted our Gala last November.

Sakate Khaitan, Chairman of Pratham UK, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Pratham UK has been nominated for ‘Social Impact Project of the Year’ at the UK-India Awards. Being recognised for our impact on children’s learning in India with such a fantastic award nomination is a proud moment for the organisation and its Board of Trustees especially. As Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee, once said, Pratham’s impact on the lives of millions of kids has been tremendous; it is quite simply an exceptional, best-in-class organisation that has managed to scale across India. We couldn’t be prouder of that and look forward to the celebrations at the end of June!”
