Chai and Chat Launch: Brewing Change One Conversation at a Time

On a sunny Tuesday morning in June, we kicked off the Chai and Chat campaign with a breakfast gathering at Hoppers, King’s Cross. The event brought together a group of committed changemakers, all united by a shared belief in the power of education and community.
Hosted by Pratham UK’s Executive Director, Nick Sankey, the morning featured a thoughtful panel discussion with board members Rajan Jain, Nishma Gosrani OBE and Alok Gahrotra. They spoke about how they take their Chai, their work with Pratham, and why championing access to education in India continues to be so important.
Our venue partner, Hoppers, provided a delicious South Asian breakfast spread and a welcoming space that encouraged both reflection and lively conversation. New connections were made, stories were shared, and everyone left with a renewed sense of purpose.
If you missed the launch event, there’s still a way to take part. Chai and Chat is a community fundraising campaign open to everyone. Hosting is simple — you choose the space (at home, in your workplace, community centre or online), gather your people, and we’ll provide a free starter pack with everything you need to get going: invitations, tips, recipes, and more.
Every cup of chai you share supports Pratham’s mission to help children and young people across India access quality learning opportunities. Your event could help:
-
£16: support a child in building reading and maths skills
-
£40: provide materials for a woman in the Second Chance education programme
-
£240: fund vocational training in areas like tailoring or welding
-
£800: create a digital device library for a local community
Whether you raise £20 or £200, every gathering makes a real impact.
