Pratham UK receives £25,000 grant from Goyal Foundation to boost STEM learning in India
We are thrilled to share that Pratham UK is working in partnership with the Goyal Foundation, which has generously committed £25,000 to support our science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning initiatives for underprivileged children in India.
Supporting Pratham’s mission
The Goyal Foundation is a philanthropic organisation dedicated to empowering children, young people, and women by tackling disadvantage both in the UK and abroad. Through its various initiatives, the foundation aims to make a lasting impact by improving education, health, and overall well-being in underprivileged communities by partnering with fellow non-profits.
The charity was created in memory of Avnish Goyal’s parents, who arrived in the UK from India almost fifty years ago, carrying a vision of a brighter future for their family. This vision was not only about achieving a better life for themselves but also giving back to the communities they left behind, creating opportunities for others to thrive through education and empowerment. Today, the Goyal Foundation channels this ethos into its philanthropic work, focusing on education, skills development, and providing resources for underprivileged communities in India and the UK.
By funding projects that foster learning and skill development, the Goyal Foundation’s grant will help improve access to education and better life opportunities, especially for women and children in India. Their commitment will affect long-term change and support lasting improvements in the communities they serve.
Making a difference, one child at a time
The Goyal Foundation grant will fund essential STEM learning initiatives in the Prayagraj and Pitthoragarh districts, which will impact over 3,000 students across 32 schools. These Pratham-run programmes bridge the gap between children’s curiosity about scientific concepts by providing a platform to ‘learn by doing’. They aim to enhance foundational literacy and numeracy skills while integrating hands-on science workshops, climate education, and annual science fairs to inspire curiosity and foster future innovators.
By focusing on interactive, practical learning, we are empowering children to not only learn but excel in subjects like science, math, and technology. One inspiring example is Madhusudan, a 16-year-old science enthusiast who has built a solar-powered water pump and now shares his knowledge at Pratham’s Science Centre in Aurangabad.
Looking towards the future
With the Goyal Foundation’s support, we are committed to transforming STEM education for children in India, ensuring they have the skills and opportunities to succeed and build bright futures with careers in a wide range of advancing industries.
Anita Goyal, who chairs the Goyal Foundation, said: We aim to empower children, young people and women to tackle disadvantage in the UK and abroad, particularly India.
