Second Chances, Lasting Change: Dimple's Journey

On most mornings in Udaipur, Rajasthan, Dimple walks her children to school before heading to the Anganwadi centre where she works. Her day may seem ordinary, but her journey to this point has been extraordinary.

Born into a modest household, Dimple had to give up her education early. She failed Grade 10 in 2012, and family responsibilities took over. At 17, she began working to support her family, and by 18, she was married with two children.

When Pratham’s Second Chance programme started nearby in 2018-19, her mother-in-law encouraged her to join. With a nine-month-old baby in her arms, Dimple attended classes while studying tirelessly at home, supported by her mother-in-law and, over time, her husband.

In 2020, she passed Grade 10 with 68.16% and went on to become an Anganwadi worker. Inspired by her determination, Durgesh resumed his education, cleared Grade 10 in 2021, and found work at an E-Mitra centre. Their journey also encouraged their neighbour Jumma to complete her schooling. Recently, Dimple completed her graduation while continuing her work, and their children attend school regularly.

“If given a second chance, we can change our lives,” Dimple says. “I once thought education was beyond my reach, but today it has given me confidence and independence.”

Durgesh adds, “It’s never too late to learn. Hard work and support can make a real difference.”

Dimple’s journey shows how determination, resilience, and family support can transform lives, creating opportunities that once felt impossible.
